Directions For Festive Ham and Cheese Breakfast Bake Recipe
- To begin, prepare the crescent dough a day before to allow the dough to proof overnight.
- Begin by putting your shortening and salt together in a measuring cup or bowl.
- Add the boiling water to the shortening and salt mixture and stir until combined. Leave aside to become lukewarm (at least 100-110F if using active yeast to activate it). Instant yeast does not need this activation step.
- Then in the same mixture, dissolve the yeast.
- In a separate bowl, beat the eggs and sugar until combined. Then take your egg/sugar mixture and mix into the shortening one.
- Sift in your flour to this mixture slowly one cup at a time until a rough dough forms that can be kneaded.
- Knead the dough until smooth for a few minutes and then place into a bowl to proof in the fridge overnight!
- The next day, cut the dough in half and roll in two circles that are around 1/4 inch thick.
- Take the softened butter and spread it onto the rounds.
- Cut the dough into pie-shaped wedges (a pizza cutter works great for this) and roll them into crescents.
- On a parchment-lined baking tray, place your rolled crescents with a few inches in between so they can puff up in the oven well.
- Bake at 375F for about 8 minutes - just until lightly golden brown.
- Once out of the oven, cut the rolls in half - spread on Chosen Foods Avocado mayo to each half and add a slice of cheese and ham.
- Sandwich the top and bottom half of the crescent roll together and arrange them into a 9x9in baking dish.
- Pour the heavy cream into the baking dish, sprinkle on some chopped chives for some added green, and salt and pepper to taste as well. Feel free to add additional cheese and ham slices along the edges and corners of the dish.
- Bake at 350F for about 20 minutes! Enjoy!
