6 Easy Ways To Cook with Avocado Oil Spray
Chosen Foods non-aerosol sprays are the healthiest option for low-oil, chemical-free cooking. They offer the same convenience and control as regular cooking sprays, but are free of unwanted additives like propellants, artificial flavors, and preservatives. Our oil sprays operate via a newer technology known as “bag on valve.” For our full write up on the topic, read our blog “4 Reasons to Ditch Conventional Cooking Spray.”
How do Chosen Foods Cooking Oil Sprays work?
Our cooking oil sprays operate via a new technology known as “bag on valve.” With this innovation, a quick press of the button delivers a fine mist of avocado oil only—never chemical propellants that end up in your food. We chose this method specifically because it’s cleaner and healthier for home cooks like you, as well as for the environment. Because you’re only spraying oil, you can use Chosen Foods cooking oil sprays directly on your food, not just on the sauté pan or grilling rack you’re placing meats and veggies on.
Easy Ways to Use Our Sprays
1. Air Frying
Air fryers are all the rage these days. Just hit up Pinterest for endless ideas on how to achieve that perfect crisp with less oil. What’s special about air fryers is that they don’t actually fry at all. Instead, they circumvent the need for deep frying with a high-heat convection oven effect, which allows food to be cooked with just a light touch of oil. That’s where our sprays come in.
Cooking proteins and vegetables in the air fryer is almost ridiculously easy. Dice or chop whatever’s for dinner—chicken, tofu, sweet potatoes, or brussel sprouts, or all of the above. Toss the food in a metal mixing bowl and mist for a few seconds with avocado oil spray. Then add any seasonings, such as salt, pepper, herbs or spices, and toss it all together with a flat spatula.
Next, open the air fryer and lightly mist the internal cooking basket with avocado oil spray. Fill the basket with your seasoned meats and/or veggies, being careful to leave a bit of room between each piece for even crisping. Then simply set the air fryer to the desired time and temperature.
2. Dressing Salads & Greens
If you prefer your salad dressings lighter—just enough to cover each leaf but not enough to have dressing leftover—avocado oil sprays are perfect. To begin, put your greens into a metal mixing bowl and mist with avocado oil spray. If desired, drizzle a couple tablespoons of your favorite salad vinegar on top. Toss with a flat spatula, tongs, or chopsticks.
At this point, you can either dish the greens in their serving bowls and top with other ingredients, or alternatively, add your chopped tomatoes, cucumbers, and other vegetables to the greens in the mixing bowl. If following the second method, spray the new ingredients with avocado oil, toss again, and then dish.
3. Marinating Meats & Tofu
To get the most out of your proteins, it’s best to marinate them overnight or for a minimum or one hour. Start by rinsing your meat under cool water, then pat dry with a clean paper towel. Using Chosen Foods Avocado Oil Spray, mist the meat on all sides. Once coated, roll the meat in a metal mixing bowl to coat with dry herbs, spices, salt, or other seasonings, then place in an airtight container in the fridge to marinate.
If you’re using tofu instead, start by laying a clean dish towel on the counter. Next, drain the water from the pack of tofu. On top of the dish towel, place the block of tofu between two cutting boards with a hefty (or weighty) object on top. (One or two cookbooks should do.) Leave the tofu to press for an hour. The water will drain onto the cutting board and likely overflow onto the dish towel. After an hour, the tofu should be drier and firmer than before. Chop, spray, and season as you would in the instructions for the meat above.
Meat, tofu, or even vegetables can be marinated with Avocado Oil Spray. For an extra burst of flavor, use one of our Infused Sprays or combine them to create unique flavor profiles. Two of our favorite combinations are:
4. Garlic Bread & Crostini
Can you think of a dish that can’t be improved with a side of bread? Yeah, we can’t either. Garlic bread, with its combination of earthy, pungent, salty notes, happens to be one of our favorites. Pair it with soup, pasta, salad, or a fresh tomato basil bruschetta mix.
The Chosen Foods take on garlic bread is quick and easy for busy nights with the family. It’s simple—just slice the bread and mist it with our Garlic Spray. Then throw it in the oven or broiler for the desired crispiness. For those of you who like things extra garlicky, finely chop fresh garlic and herbs and spread the mixture over the bread before baking. A light sprinkle of flaked salt and cracked pepper will draw it all together.
5. Pasta Salad
Pasta salad comes in many forms, but almost always calls for a bit of oil. To begin, cook your pasta al dente, then immediately rinse it with cold water in a colander. If you don’t, the pasta will continue to cook and become mushy.
Let the pasta drain and cool completely, then add it to a large metal mixing bowl. Toss in the other ingredients your recipe calls for—diced tomato, red pepper, chicken, broccoli, olives, feta, etc—and spray everything generously with Avocado Oil Spray. We recommend our Italian Herb Spray, as it goes well with so many pasta salad recipes. Add a light drizzle of vinegar, such as red wine vinegar, to give the salad its necessary tanginess.
6. Adding Flavor (with Infused Sprays)
We currently offer three savory flavors of Infused Sprays—Garlic, Chipotle, and Italian Herb. These unique blends are made from pure avocado oil infused with real plant extracts and can also be used directly on food. Swap any recipe that calls for original Avocado Oil Spray with an Infused Avocado Oil Spray to instantly add a burst of flavor.
Here are some examples of original Chosen Foods recipes that call for Infused Sprays:
- Winter Salad with Radicchio and Garlic Squash (Garlic Spray)
- Italian Mushroom Toast with Goat Cheese (Italian Herb Spray)
- Pumpkin Spice Skillet Cookie with Chocolate Chips (Pumpkin Spice Spray)
Look out for our sweet sprays, including Simply Cinnamon and Pumpkin Spice, during the fall and winter seasons. Just a few mists to a pie, cookie, or cake recipe infuses warm, spiced flavor into every bite.
